Once graced by the Ring and the Erdtree which symbolizes its presence, the realm is now ruled over by the demigod offspring of Queen Marika the Eternal, each possessing a shard of the Ring that corrupts and taints them with power. As Tarnished—exiles from the Lands Between who lost the Ring's grace and are summoned back after the Shattering, players must traverse the realm to ultimately find all the Great Runes, restore the Elden Ring, and become the Elden Lord. Elden Ring is an action role-playing game played in a third-person perspective with gameplay focusing on combat and exploration; it features elements similar to those found in other games developed by FromSoftware, such as the Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained that players start with a linear opening but eventually progress to freely explore the Lands Between, including its six main areas, as well as castles, fortresses, and catacombs scattered throughout the open world map. These main areas are interconnected through a central hub that players can access later in the game's progression—similar to Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls—and are explorable using the character's mount as the main mode of transport, although a fast travel system is an available option. Throughout the game, players encounter non-player characters (NPCs) and enemies alike, including the demigods who rule each main area and serves as the game's main bosses. Combat in Elden Ring relies heavily on character-building elements found in previous Souls games and related intellectual properties, such as calculated and close-ranged melee-based combat with the use of skills, magic abilities, as well as blocking and dodging mechanics. Elden Ring introduces mounted combat and a stealth system, the latter being a core gameplay element from Sekiro; these features are expected to encourage players in strategizing their combat approach with each unique enemy they encounter. The game makes use of a player character stamina bar after being absent from Sekiro, although its overall influence over combat was reduced compared to previous FromSoftware games that utilized it. Unlike in Sekiro, resurrection mechanics after in-game death are not available; however, some elements were added to ensure players' progression within the game.

This is still one of my favorite video games ever and I think it's game of the year 2022 for sure, but it doesn't have the same replayability as Sekiro, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, or any of the Dark Souls games. Of brengt het echt wat nieuws? bevalt de open wereld structuur en past het in het soulslike malletje? Is het nog steeds zo pittig of hebben ze concessies gedaan? Je gaat het allemaal zien en horen in de Premium review van Elden Ring. De Elden Ring Premium Review FromSoftware kennen we natuurlijk van zijn pittigheid in games. Van Dark Souls, Bloodborn, Demon's Souls en Sekiro. En nu dus van Elden Ring. Is dit nieuwe deel net zo goed als de vorige games? Wat doet Elden Ring anders? En betekent anders ook beter? Hoe voelt de open wereld structuur van de game aan? Dat is toch niets nieuws voor de soulslike fan. Hoe zit de game inhoudelijk in elkaar? Zit er een tof verhaal in? Hoe moeilijk is het? Blijft het leuk om telkens maar dood te gaan? En dan weer opnieuw te moeten beginnen? Hoe zit de game grafisch in elkaar? Is het op elk beschikbaar platform even mooi? Of wil je dit echt op de PC spelen? Merk je ook dat de game geschreven is door Hidetaka Miyazaki en George R. R. Martin? De wereld van Hidetaka Miyazaki en George R. R. Martin Tijdens de stream hoorde je dat de PC-versie nog wat problemen had. Is dit ook op de consoles het geval? Hoe zit het met Skate. Heeft hij eindelijk de tijd kunnen vinden om de game echt goed te spelen? Want zoals je in de Premiumvision aflevering kon zien, ging dat niet altijd even goed. En natuurlijk grootste vraag. Moet je dit gaan kopen? Je gaat het allemaal zien en horen in de Premium Review van Elden Ring.
