This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In his talk, Dan Parris explains that we can make a difference in the world through our time, talents, and treasure. The reasons we should make a difference is because something about this world breaks our heart, and how we should make a difference is by doing what makes us come alive. These create your Y2Q (Your 2 Questions) and by intersecting their answers, there you will find how you should make a difference in this world. However, he ends by warning us what can keep us from making that difference by taking us through the "5 Stages of Activist Grief." Dan Parris is the founder of Speak Up Productions, a St. Louis based documentary production company. Learn more about Speak Up Productions, their films, and Y2Q at 🤍. Official video What Difference Does It Make? by The Smiths Stream The Smiths greatest hits here ▶ 🤍 Read More: 🤍 Subscribe here ▶ 🤍 Watch The Smiths' other official music videos ▶ 🤍 What Difference Does It Make?" was released in 1984. The single version is taken from band's self-titled debut album The Smiths. A different version recorded for the John Peel Show on BBC Radio One is featured on the compilation album Hatful of Hollow. Lyrics All men have secrets and here is mine So let it be known For we have been through hell and high tide I think I can rely on you... And yet you start to recoil Heavy words are so lightly thrown But still I'd leap in front of a flying bullet for you So, what difference does it make? So, what difference does it make? It makes none But now you have gone And you must be looking very old tonight The devil will find work for idle hands to do I stole and I lied, and why? Because you asked me to! But now you make me feel so ashamed Because I've only got two hands Well, I'm still fond of you, oh-ho-oh So, what difference does it make? Oh, what difference does it make? Oh, it makes none But now you have gone And your prejudice won't keep you warm tonight Oh, the devil will find work for idle hands to do I stole, and then I lied Just because you asked me to But now you know the truth about me You won't see me anymore Well, I'm still fond of you, oh-ho-oh But no more apologies No more, no more apologies Oh, I'm too tired I'm so sick and tired And I'm feeling very sick and ill today But I'm still fond of you, oh-ho-oh Oh, my sacred one... Oh...

The world-renowned marketing and leadership author Seth Godin talks about the difference between leadership and management, the confusion surrounding them, and why the world needs more leaders. Key Points: • Management works well in terms of increasing economic efficiency and productivity. But, in the face of rapid change, the world needs leadership to get through this stage of unprecedented transformation. • You should strive for excellence. Producing something truly great is the only way to build competitive advantage because sophisticated robots, artificial intelligence, and low-paid labor will handle the trivial job of assuring quality. • You should focus on “soft skills” which are actually “real skills”. Those are the characteristics that differentiate a potential employee from a robot. • Effective leadership can help companies navigate difficulties and failures, and eventually find successful processes to get forward. Questions to consider: • How can you become more of a leader than a manager? • How can you and your organization strive for excellence instead of just quality? • Are you focusing on real skills? • How can you make better processes in order to fail more efficiently? You can also find a written summary of the keynote at 🤍 #nbforum #nordicbusinessforum #nbf #leadership #management

Art positively affects our lives in countless ways. In fact, the argument could be made that without art, we as a civilization would not exist without the benefits of art. I share stories of artistic efforts throughout history to show how “art makes a huge difference.” Malcolm assembled his first two pieces of wood together as a youngster in his granddad's workshop. In the mid 90's, after building many furniture pieces and after acquiring a shop full of tools, Malcolm's woodworking journey took him to the wonderful world of segmented woodturning - a truly unique art form. Malcolm has a wonderful marriage, two terrific grown children, a successful past career in the ski industry, and now plenty of personal time to pursue his woodturning passion. For many years (before becoming a fulltime turner), Malcolm was represented by the Stones Gallery in downtown San Francisco. Currently, he sells most of my work directly to the public. Malcolm's turnings have won many awards and prestigious collectors have acquired many of my pieces. In 2002, he was approached by Linden Publishing company to reveal some of his techniques in the form of a "how to" book on the subject. Malcolm's book, The Art of Segmented Woodturning is now available. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at 🤍
