Introducing the all-new Vauxhall or Opel Astra! Mat’s got his hands on Vauxhall’s/Opel's new family-friendly hatchback and he’s about to see if it has what it takes to compete with competitors such as the Peugeot 308! For starters, it more than looks the part! The new Astra rolls up with a totally redesigned bumper and grille, coupled with a nice crease in the bonnet to give it a more sporty look. Around the back, there’s a smart integrated light design along with a bootlip spoiler. It’s also possible to get a contrasting roof colour with certain trims! On the inside, the Astra is pretty smart, although the design doesn’t live up to the quality of the exterior. The build quality is pretty solid, and thankfully it comes with a number of physical buttons for the climate control. It’s possible to get a large infotainment screen, too, although the system isn’t exactly the best. Thankfully though it does come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto! There are a number of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, along with a plug-in hybrid! The latter delivers the most power, with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and electric motor combining to deliver 180hp. The range kicks off from around £24,000, but is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself! If you like cars, or even if you don’t like cars, Vauxhall has very likely been a big part of your life. If you haven’t owned one, you’ve hired one, been driven around in one, or seen them day in day out on the streets. And for good reason. Vauxhall has been pumping out affordable mainstream cars for decades. But its fortunes have gone up, then down, up, then down, up, then down, and finally up then sort of down? over the oh, 162 years it’s been in business! WIN with Lancaster Insurance: 🤍 Successor to the Chevette, the Vauxhall Astra was targeted at the ubiquitous Ford Escort. Borrowed from Vauxhall's European cousin, Opel, the Kadett D was rebadged to create a family car for Britain, complete with the new GM Family1 engine. The first Griffin with front-wheel drive, the Astra combined Opel’s sharp design with a new, spacious interior to create a modern, practical family car. The hot 16-Valve Astra GTE kept the Golf GTI and Escort XR3i honest, whereas the estate model was a sales rep favourite. The name endures to today, with the new 8th generation car, so we decided to revisit the origins of the Vauxhall Astra! Looking to sell your car? Then you've come to the right place. carwow is the free, easy way to change your car online. Check it out here: 🤍 ............................................................. Is the Vauxhall Corsa the must-have small family car? Well, let’s find out! Mat’s got his hands on the Vauxhall Corsa-e, and he’s going to run you through everything you need to know in this in-depth review. For starters, there is a choice of three different petrol engines. They’re all 1.2-litres, starting from 75hp and raising to 130hp if you choose the range-topper. However, there’s also an all-electric version available, which is powered by a single motor to deliver 136hp. In terms of price, the entry-level petrol-powered Corsa is pretty affordable, at £17,000. However, should you choose to go all-electric, you’ll have to splash out a bit more, which prices starting from £27,000! In terms of design, the Corsa is a pretty good looking car from the outside, looking relatively sleek from the front, and with the more expensive models come with the option to choose a contrasting black roof! On the inside, you’ll generally find good quality materials throughout the cabin, although the infotainment system isn’t all that good. So should you choose the Corsa over competitors like the Skoda Fabia or Peugeot 208? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out! #vauxhallcorsae #corsaelectric #electriccars Remember the Vauxhall Corsa Electric? Probably one of the most approachable little electric cars ever made, but one that also managed to be … how to say this politely?… a bit dull. Luckily, it seems like someone at Vauxhall has been listening, so now we have this… the NEW Vauxhall Corsa Electric. A bit more grown-up looks-wise, and definitely more modern. It’s had a bit of a hardware upgrade too and can go further on a charge. One of the things we complained about with the Corsa Electric was that although it was based on the same bits as the Peugeot e-208, it ended up looking like the frumpy sibling. In now looks more like the rest of Vauxhall’s range now, mainly thanks to this ‘Vizor’ front end that we’ve already seen on the Mokka and Astra. It’s sharper, neater and more modern, and still a small, five-door hatchback. The rest is pretty much as it was before, although the badges on the back have moved into the middle of the car and all the chrome bits - including the badges - have turned black. There’s also a shark-fin antenna up here, and black 17-inch wheels. The battery has grown from 46.6kWh to 48.1, enough to jump the WLTP range from 222miles to 255, a 15% increase. Which doesn’t sound like that much, right up until you need to get home without stopping… and it’s 30 miles away… Join Nicki as she takes a close look around Vauxhall’s new Corsa-e. What do you think of its striking new look? Is it an improvement or did you prefer the old version? As always, we love you hear your views, so let us know what you think in the comments below. IDRIVEACLASSIC has welcomed new channel sponsor, Bidding Classics Auctions, you can check out their brilliant line up of classics for sale on their website 🤍biddingclassics.com Vauxhall Velox Although Vauxhall had used the Velox name before on the Wyvern cars, the PA line up of cars which included the Velox as you see here today and the Cresta, came into the consciousness of British car buyers in 1957. The PA Velox as we test here today was launched in the October of that year at British International Motor Show and sported the 2.2 engine, as did the more heavily spec’d and chromed up Cresta. This was an interesting time for motoring because some of the younger section of the car market were hankering over what was on offer in America, which meant that Vauxhall being part of GM, were well placed to tap into the right people in America. If you’re an American automotive fanatic, you’re probably looking at this car and thinking wow, that car looks so similar to a 55 Chevvy Bel Air, although I also thought that when I looked at the Victor! The new Velox and Cresta’s had the wrap windscreen, which was a marvellous new concept for many Brit automotive buyers who had become comfortably accustomed to small screens with trusty pillars. To appreciate how revolutionary the rear screen must’ve appeared to the general public of the time, look to the 50s best seller in the UK, the Morris Minor and you’ll see this offers SO much more rear visibility. It’s actually astounding in comparison. Actually whilst we talk about the rear screen, this one we’re in today is quite a rare beast being a 3 parter. Later cars got one piece rear screens. However, the wrap screens aren’t the only American flair and the bench seating, rear fins, the choice of colours on the car paintwork for a Velox which including pink, two tone paint if you picked a Cresta and chrome just for sake of it, especially on the Cresta, meant this must’ve looked absolutely wild at the time when parked next to the more commonplace British cars of the 50s like the Austins, Morris’, Rovers and Wolseleys. Engine wise, the car we’re testing today is a 2.2 litre, 1959 was the last year of this engine before they went up to a 2.6 in 1960. The output on the 2.26 six cylinder engine is 83 horsepower but interestingly if you bought this in the export market where fuel was lower grade, the compression ratio is slightly tweaked and you only get an output of 78 horsepower. Overall it was an exciting car for exciting times in a world that was changing rapidly, the late 50s saw the dawn of the motorway and 1960 saw the first MOT and Vauxhall delivered a forward thinking, modern looking car for the new era. From police forces to pop stars and even dear late Queen Elizabeth 2nd, the PA Velox Cresta range was loved by a lot of people, but who buys one in 2023? Well, let me introduce Steve, who is possibly the most Vauxhall centric chap I’ve ever met.
Ford and Vauxhall/Opel were locked in a battle for European car sales in the 1980s and 90s. Any model Ford had, Opel had to match or beat them. Ford had the Granada, | so Vauxhall/Opel launched an expensive onslaught in the 1980s to topple them, hoping to repeat the gains they’d enjoyed with the smaller Astra and Cavalier. Yet by the time their luxury car, the Omega ended production, the Granada was long gone, and Vauxhall and Opel’s parent General Motors was running out of options despite competing with not one but two luxury brands. How did it go so wrong for two car companies that had been on the top of their game? The Vauxhall Astra was never a class-leader. It always used to lose out to popular alternatives such as the brilliant Ford Focus and the perennial Volkswagen Golf. But this latest iteration of the model is so much better than it used to be, that its fortunes might be about to change. We're really impressed with the way the Astra drives, the immense practicality of the passenger compartment and the boot, and even the way it looks. We at Carbuyer reckon the 2015 Vauxhall Astra might be about to overtake the competition and become the very best in its category. #vauxhallastraelectric #astraelectric #electriccars Story: 🤍 Vauxhall has finally revealed the details of its long-awaited fully electric version of the big-selling Astra - and we’ve been invited to the brand’s HQ to have a good look around. Just like the smaller Corsa and Mokka, Vauxhall has chosen to offer an electric powertrain as just one of the options in the showroom alongside more conventional petrol versions. There is also a Sports Tourer bodystyle on offer, creating a new rival for the MG5. Both the hatch and estate feature the same fully electric powertrain. Powered by a 154bhp motor and a 54kWh battery, the Astra achieves an official WLTP-certified range of 258 miles and reaches a top speed of 105mph. As with other Vauxhall electric models, the Astra Electric supports up to 100kW DC rapid charging, with an 80 per cent charge taking around 30 minutes. From launch, all Astra Electric models will come standard with a three-phase 11kW AC onboard charger. The Astra Sports Tourer Electric has 516 litres of luggage space with the rear seats up, increasing to 1,553 litres when folded – this is identical to Plug-in Hybrid variants of the vehicle but 92 litres less than the petrol model. Join Nicki as she takes a close look around the all-new Vauxhall Astra. Is this the car you’ve been waiting for, or has Vauxhall left it too late to gatecrash the electric party? Vauxhall Zafira MPV 2014 review: 🤍 Subscribe to the Carbuyer YouTube channel: 🤍 Subscribe to Auto Express: 🤍 With its clever seating arrangement, top practicality and good build quality, the Zafira makes a great family car. It's competitively priced, too, and offers a wide choice of engines and trim levels. The ride is comfortable and the big Vauxhall soaks up bumps with ease. The Zafira is available with a huge panoramic glass roof, which also features overhead storage. This is a worthwhile addition, as it allows loads of light into the cabin and improves practicality. The sporty VXR version is a great choice for those who need a more practical motor, but don't want to give up on driving thrills it's very quick and a lot sportier than its rivals. The Ford Fiesta has been axed, but the Vauxhall Corsa remains one of the UK's best selling cars. We find out why... It looks good, boasts one of the best petrol engines in its class and has benefited hugely from the thoroughly modern underpinnings shared with the latest Peugeot 208. There’s plenty to separate the two closely linked cars, however. Inside and out, the Vauxhall looks and feels unique; sharp, modern lines mean the Corsa looks better than it ever has, while the comfortable interior boasts plenty of good-quality trim and up-to-date tech. The Corsa's chief rival - the Ford Fiesta - was taken off sale in 2022, but the Vauxhall has soldiered on to become one of last year's best selling cars. In this video, Nicola Hume gets behind the wheel to find out why it's so popular. Futuristic looks and a properly techy interior is the perfect antidote the ultra-deary previous-gen Mokka. But is the new crossover as fun to drive as it looks? It certainly faces some stiff competition, especially in the form of the Ford Puma which is not only great to drive but is super specious too. In the Mokka you get a mix of 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre engines, available with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox. There's also an electric model that boasts a range of 201 miles and supports 100kW fast charging, too. And while its boot is a little bit smaller than what you get on the old Mokka, its funky looks surely make up for it. So is Vauxhall onto a winner with its UFO-like crossover? 🔴 Subscribe for more awesome car videos: 🤍 Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:35 Design 1:43 Trim options and platform 2:23 Interior features 3:12 Interior tech 4:14 Rear head and legroom 4:57 Boot capacity 5:52 Engine specs + EV range 7:15 Driving 7:25 Performance 8:32 Refinement 9:21 Steering 9:53 Ride comfort 10:17 Driverless tech 10:47 Is the Mokka fun to drive? 11:25 The most interesting Vauxhall in years 🎥 Check out our other videos: NEW Audi Q4 e-tron 2021 review - 🤍 Ford Puma ST vs Fiesta ST - 🤍 NEW Mazda MX-30 - 🤍 Read more: New 2021 Mazda CX-5 road test - 🤍 Find great deals on a new and used Vauxhall Mokka at YesAuto - 🤍
Check out Mat's preferred trim & engine for each car: 🤍 We’ve pulled together four of the best small cars money can buy, and Mat’s about to find out which one is right for you! It’s fair to say all four of these cars are pretty recognisable. We’ve got the world-famous VW Golf, the Ford Focus, the Vauxhall (Opel) Astra, and the Honda Civic. The question is, in a crowded small car market, which one stands out the most? For example, when it comes to price, all four are evenly matched. Entry-level versions of each car start from around £25,000 for the Golf and Astra, rising to £27,000 & £29,000 for the Focus and Civic respectively. Additionally, all the cars here (apart from the Civic) come with a whole host of engine and trim options to choose from. Thankfully, Mat’s here to give all four cars a full in-depth review! He'll be checking out their designs, practicality, interiors, and what they’re like to drive. And in each case, he’ll compare them all against each other before deciding on an overall winner! The question is, which one is your favourite? Let us know in the COMMENTS!
