I bought 2 new E34 5 series this week. Both wildly different, yet one thing remains the same, the cost. So I figured lets take this opportunity to dive into what sub $2500 E34s look like in May of 2023. They certainly don't look like they used to.... We analyze 2 525i's. The BMW driving pleasure experienced in a standard and oldschool E34 525i is still to this day one of my most favourite things i have done. Its such a refreshing moment to just be in a car, without any electric devices or extra gadgets to distract you from driving. You just sit there turn the wheel, change the gears and experience well being. The six cylinders in a line add to that wonderful experience. Every rev and shift just feels like a binaural sound. Sup brothers ! im horrible at making these videos lol but im slowly getting better !! in summary 525 pros: Great smiles per gallon 7/10 M50 easy to work on, Least maintenance, fairly cheap, Best bang for your buck, Easily modified motor shout out to the e36 peeps, 525 Cons: Slowest of them all. 530 pros: Could easily add 60hp by motor swappign m60b40. sounds amazing. underdog of the e34s 530 cons: Not fast for a v8, bad smile per gallon rating 5/10 tough to work on (space wise) 535 pros: now this is the easiest to work on, very simple, cheap parts only 12 valves and single cam, great sound, smiles per gallon rating 7/10, reliable motors, great motor to turbo, baby m5 535 cons: valve adjustment often. older tech, bad mpgs 540 pros: FREAKING FUN TO DRIVE, parts are available, can fix it if it breaks, smiles per gallon rating 10/10, great sounds, fast, 2019 base model fast lol 540 cons: cramp engine bay, not many upgrades available, mpgs not so good, expensive parts M5 pros: ITS A M5, own total bragging rights, rising in price, hand built motor, not hard to work on, smiles per gallon 10/10 M5 cons: not many upgrades and it can get EXPENSIVE. Dont break s38 specific parts cause they are nonexistence any more, looks better in the garage. btw if its a wagon version of any of these forsure the wagon is best!
