The MacPherson suspension (or MacPherson strut suspension) is a type of independent car suspension that was developed by American engineer Earl MacPherson in the 1940s and has become popular in the automotive industry. It serves as the basic structure of suspension for many modern cars and offers a good balance between comfort and handling. A distinctive feature of this suspension is the strut, which serves as both a shock absorber and a control arm.

How Different Types of Suspension System Works? Explained in Details Video Credits (Please check out these channels also): [The Wheel Network] Double link front and multi-link rear suspension - 🤍 [KYBEurope] How Suspension Works - 🤍 [Monroe Australia & New Zealand] What are shock absorbers? - 🤍 Suspension System: The automobile vehicle's frame and body are mounted on the front and rear axle not directly but through some form of springs and shock absorbers. This is done to damp road shocks transmitted parts that perform this function are called a suspension system. Thus, the suspension system includes springs, shock absorbers, and mountings. The suspension system of a motor vehicle is divided into rear-end suspension and front-end suspension. Types of Suspension Systems: Independent suspension: In this type of suspension, each front wheel is independently supported by a coil, torsion bar, or leaf spring. Most passenger cars now use independent front suspension, in which the coil spring system is the most common. Types of Independent suspension: 1. Macpherson Strut Suspension 2. Double Wishbone Suspension 3. Multilink Suspension 4. Trailing Arm Suspension Non-Independent or Rigid axle suspension: This type of suspension was universally used before independent front wheel suspension was introduced. It may use either two longitudinal leaf springs, as shown in the figure, or transverse springs, usually in conjunction with shock absorbers. These assemblies are mounted similarly to rear leaf spring suspensions. Types of Non-Independent or Rigid axle suspension: 1. Solid Axle Leaf Spring Suspension 2. Solid Axle Coil Spring Other Suspension Types: 1. Air Suspension 2. Hydro Elastic Suspension Disclaimer: This video is just for educational purposes only. How Car Suspensions Work | Car Suspension System Explained With car suspension animation in the video, the contents include 1) Car suspension components: steering knuckle, damper, spring, control arm, anti-sway bar and the tyre. The two principal components of a suspension system: springs and dampers. There are 4 types of springs currently used in vehicle suspension systems today, coil spring, leaf spring, torsion bar and air spring. Springs are energy storage units. They are good at absorbing the energy, but not good at dissipating the energy. A smooth ride requires both springs and the dampers, the Shock absorber or suspension struts. 2) Wheel alignment and how it would help a car suspension system: camber, caster and toe. It introduces positive and negative camber, steering axis inclination, positive and negative caster, toe in and toe out. 3) Independent and dependent car suspension systems: details explained on MacPherson Strut Suspension, Double wishbone suspension, Multi-link suspension (5-link suspension and solid axle multi-link system) , Trailing-arm suspension, common rear suspensions (Solid Axle Leaf Spring; solid axle coil spring) , Torsion beam suspension and air suspension. 00:00 Introduction 00:07 Car Suspension System 00:57 Suspension Components (Spring, damper, anti-sway bar) 04:27 Wheel Alignment (Camber, Caster and Toe) 07:25 Independent and Dependent Suspension 07:56 Macpherson Strut Suspension 10:04 Double Wishbone Suspension 13:03 Multi-link Suspension 14:48 Trailing Arm Suspension 15:51 Rear Suspension 16:16 Solid Axle Leaf Spring Suspension 18:03 Solid Axle Coil Spring 18:25 Torsion Beam Suspension 19:41 Air Suspension Keywords: Car suspension Animation | Car Suspension Components | Wheel Alignment explained | MacPherson Strut Suspension Animation | Double Wishbone Suspension Animation | Leaf Spring | Rear Suspension | Torsion Beam Suspension | Multi-link Suspension Acknowledgement: Music by John Yasut from Pixabay.com: 🤍 🎬 Animated Engineering Channel: 🤍 💙 Our website: 🤍ering

Is it better for a suspension to have soft coil springs or stiff springs? The purpose of a suspension is to keep your tires on the ground. A softer suspension will offer more mechanical grip as it will do a better job of keeping the tires on the ground vs a stiff suspension when it comes to depressions, bumps, and surface irregularities in the road. But then why do race cars have such stiff suspensions? This video explains the design philosophy behind race car suspensions. Related Links (And Hat Tip!) Contrary to popular belief, comfort is motorcycle suspension's secondary job. Its primary job is to ensure that the tyres are in firm contact with the road surface. This allows the rider's inputs to make a difference on what the motorcycle is doing. A suspension has two major components - springs and dampers. The dampers control the compression and decompression of the springs. That gives suspension 3 properties - compression, rebound, and preload. In part 1 of a four-part series on suspension, Shubhabrata Marmar explains how motorcycle suspension works, and why you need to set it right. #PowerDrift Join the 2 Million strong #PDArmy : 🤍 Stay updated with News, Behind the Scenes here : 🤍 T-shirts, Badges & More official merchandise : 🤍 Find us on Facebook: 🤍 Follow us on Twitter for Launch updates & more : 🤍
