We stop in the French Alps on the way to Italy. They are absolutely stunning, and we fell in love with them. But maaaaan are they expensive! We decided to do the top recommended activity in Chamonix, head up the cable car to Aguille de Midi, we read the reviews and debated whether this was a cost we could justify. In the end we decided to do it and bring you guys along for the spectacular views! But the question is... was it worth it? We also stopped off in Annecy which is the Venice of the Alps, absolutely stunning, we get a beautiful wild swim to cool us off in the scorching temperatures. 5 Incredible Hikes In Chamonix France In this short video we’ll be checking out 5 incredible hikes that we only suggest because well… We’ve done them! We’re Mike and Laura, we’re a full time traveling couple and we just spent a month living, hiking and exploring, Chamonix France. The Petite Balcon 🤍 The Petite Balcon is a 2.2 mile, loop hike with around a 744 ft elevation gain taking you up and under the ski lifts that go to the Brevent. There are a few signs letting you know you’re on the right path, making this a well designated trail. It starts like most hikes here in the valley by going up to reach the trail head. The trail levels off after about a mile and there you’ll find a couple clearings along this hike where you can see inspiring views of the valley. From our apartment in town it was exactly .8 of a mile to reach the beginning of this trail and this would make the Petite Balcon our daily hike. Again, we started all of our hikes from our apartment located in the city and if you have any questions or additional information about any of these hikes feel free to subscribe and leave us a comment. Another easy to get to hike straight from the city is Number 2. Cascade Dudard 🤍 If you are one to “chase waterfalls” then this next hike is for you! The Cascade Dudard is a hike to a waterfall. It’s a 2.9 mile loop hike with approximately 1,414 feet of elevation gain. Located just by the tunnel sous le Mont-Blanc, the trail head is relatively easy to find and definitely worth your time. Once you reach the wooded trail, you will be going up for a ways so make sure to bring a water bottle and a snack to enjoy at the base of this beautiful waterfall. These hikes may be too easy for some Number 3. Plan De Aiguille 🤍 The Plan De Aiguille wasn’t actually in our PLANS (bad pun I know). This is a hike we did on a whim and found it to be exciting enough to bring to the video. This 7.2 mile out and back hike, like many others is up hill and challenging but shouldn’t take too much of your day. With a 4,094 elevation gain you can bet you’ll have some pretty amazing views. How’s this for a place to grab a snack? We didn’t even get through the entire trail before we found ourselves content with the views we caught during the hike. Not hard enough? Number 4. The Brevent 🤍 An 8.1 mile loop hike with 4,734 feet of elevation gain, this hike is a challenge for any adventure seeker. Because of the steep climbs and the platforms you will reach, this is a popular hike for paragliders and hikers alike. The trail head is located right at the start of where the Petite Balcon begins but it takes you straight up the mountain instead of going back down. You concur so many switch backs and semi technical climbs, and at the end you are definitely going to need to be ready to get up ropes and ladders. Hope you’re not afraid of heights! The view points from this hike are spectacular and this is definitely one of the top tier hikes in the valley for obvious reasons. Number 5. Lac Blanc 🤍 There are a couple ways of meeting the trail head for this hike but like I mentioned previously, we are starting all of our hikes from the city. This will make our hike about 15 mile round trip climb to one of the areas most popular destinations, Lac Blanc. From Chamonix, 5,114 foot elevation gain. This hike will take the entire day. Here you get an incredible view of French Alps while you sit by an icy glacial lake. This picturesque location is honestly is the most memorable of all the hikes. (Chamonix Mont Blanc) When it comes to finding spots to park our van in, we're always on the lookout for something a little different to what everybody else is doing. This spot we found was simply awesome and so much better than parking in one of those old fashioned campsites. After arriving in Chamonix on the French Alps, we decided it wasn't the kind of place where we wanted to stay for very long so moved on and found this spot just outside the town with Mont Blanc towering over it, we parked up for the night and woke up to this!
